Of the seven things that God hates, three of them have to do with the tongue, speaking lies, being a false witness who speaks lies and sowing discord among brethren through our words.

Our mouth can get us into a lot of trouble. We always commit sin with our tongue. We seldom think before we speak, and most of the time we use the wrong words to express our feelings. Whenever people gossip to us about others, instead of us stopping them , we end up joining them with our words, making the situation worse. Instead of stopping the gossip, we cause it to spread even further.

Whenever we are angry, we let go of angry words from our tongue without caring how others will feel. When we like a certain person, we will find sweet words coming out of our mouth. But when we are irritated, we let go of words to hurt people’s feelings without realizing what we have done.

We always boast of things that we know of, exaggerating it. But, when we are faced with unpleasant situations, we will start to react by murmuring & complaining with our mouth against God & men.

We should spend time fellowshiping with God through prayer & worship, spending time reading & meditating on the Word of God , letting the Word renew our mind, God ‘s strength and power will change us to be more able to control our tongue. If we do not learn to control and guard our speech, we will get ourselves into much pain and trouble.

Solomon wrote numerous proverbs to highlight to us wise speech begins in the heart. Let our words be few but sweet, for the more we speak, the more tendency is it for us to sin with our tongue. Learn to speak slowly and carefully.

The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble. ( Proverbs 12:13 )

A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

( Proverbs 15:1 )

The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with. ( Proverbs 17:14 )

The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips.

( Proverbs 16:23 )

It is a snare to the man who devoureth that which is holy, and after vows to make enquiry. ( Proverbs 20:25 )

“I HAVE BEEN CRUCIFIED WITH CHRIST; IT IS NO LONGER I WHO LIVE, BUT CHRIST LIVES IN ME; AND THE LIFE WHICH I NOW LIVE IN THE FLESH I LIVE BY FAITH IN THE SON OF GOD, WHO LOVED ME AND GAVE HIMSELF FOR ME.(Gal 2 : 20).

Christ suffered & died for us in the flesh but He was resurrected from the dead because sin has no more dominion over Him anymore. If we want to overcome sin, we have to accept Him and allow Him to come into our lives and live His life through us. We have to follow Jesus in His death & resurrection. It means we have to die to self and to our flesh and obey Him.

However, we always try to obey God by using our own way and our own strength, but we are not willing to die to self. We do not let God take over our life 100%.

Why can’t we obey God’s words? This is because we are not willing to die to self and to our flesh. Why are we struggling in doing that? Because we do not really make Jesus the Lord of our lives.

We know that it is impossible for our sinful fleshly nature to obey God by our own strength because we always end up obeying our flesh and disobeying God. The flesh has to die and be crucified first if we want to live a victorious life. So, let us invite Jesus to come into us and live through us. Only then can we have the strength to obey the Word of God and follow His way.

In order to make us obey Him, God has to deal with us by breaking us and molding us through difficult circumstances so that we are willing to die to self and be obedient to Him. Then only the life and nature of Jesus can be manifested in cur lives.

So, brothers and sisters, let us humble ourselves before God and let His mighty hand work in us, cover us, protect us, change us, mold us, lead us, guide us and keep us safe until He comes again.
